While availability has often been a challenge for both game developers and hardware manufacturers alike, Microsoft has taken a step ahead in providing gamers with disabilities a wider field of selections to play games using the Xbox One Adaptive Controller, and more details have been shared on the specific goals the company sought when producing the apparatus.

In a report by  Engadget, Senior Xbox Hardware Program Manager Gabi Michel shared a little more insight to the invention of this Xbox Adaptive Controller, the firm’s forthcoming new controller that offers an accessibility-minded control alternative for gamers with physical or psychological disabilities and/or restricted freedom.

Especially, Michel said that Microsoft sought out to make an available controller as an alternative to the current market for similar devices, as available controls can be “quite expensive” and price thousands of dollars, according to her. Michel elaborated that most accessible controllers are custom created and that “you normally have to attend a nonprofit to get them and people frequently have waiting lists, even” alongside being difficult to make on a technical level and difficult to find for many customers.

Michel reported that Microsoft’s chief purpose when generating the Flexible Controller was that they “wanted to resolve all those issues” in providing available hardware to gamers having particular physical or mental demands, and added that “we wanted it to be affordable, we wanted it to be adaptive. It had to be simple to find, it needed to be user friendly, set up, play, everything. ”
