A fascinating episodic narrative adventure game called The Council was declared by developer Big Bad Wolf and publisher Focus Home Interactive back in December. At that time, it had been declared that the very first episode, which can be called The Mad Ones, could launch in February. February passed with no term. That eventually changed today, however, as Big Bad Wolf declared that The Council — Episode 1: The Mad Ones would be releasing per week on March 13.
Inside, the developers explain the premise behind The Council, and that which makes it stand out of episodic games. The game starts with players commanding Louis de Richet, who is visiting the personal island of Lord Mortimer, as his mum who’s a part of a special council there, has gone lost. That being said, he finds when he has there prominent historical figures such as George Washington are on the island.
On the gameplay side of things, The Council innovates by incorporating several RPG elements into the experience. Players pick between one of three classes – Diplomat, Occulist, and Detective – and may level up to unlock skills throughout the series. Combat has been replaced by a Confrontation System, in which players work their way out of sticky situations.
The Council – Episode 1: The Mad Ones is currently poised to release on March 13, together with four following episodes to follow later this season.
