Past Cure Review — It’s Terrible

PC, PS4, Xbox One

Just calling it poor, however, doesn’t really explain precisely how shockingly awful it is at each way. Between its nonsensical story, dreadful gunplay, and animations in the PS2 age of consoles, Past Cure has blown my head and reached new depths of awfulness that I didn’t understand has been possible in 2018.

It’s really hard to know just where to even start with the significant problems found in Past Cure, but I figure it’s’s easiest to start with the most dumbfounding area of the adventure: its narrative. Up front, I wish to say that coming into   Past Cure I was very excited to see that the narrative which Phantom 8 Studio had created. The team openly wore its inspirations on its sleeve saying they were hoping to model   Past Cure as a psychological-thriller in precisely the identical vein as movies like   Inception along with  Fight Club having an extra element of activity against something such as  John Wick. On paper, it left me interested.

This’s far as my enthusiasm obtained though. The game’s easy assumption follows a protagonist known simply as Ian who’s hunting down a group of men that held him captive and completed experiments on him. Ian learns he has powers — if they can even be called these — that allow him to do amazing things like disable security cameras and resolve block puzzles, after finally escaping. I’m being facetious but the supposed   powers that Ian has play with no crucial part in the gameplay portion of Past Cure.

As his forces he uses start to cause him to delve into madness, Ian tries desperately to locate correct and his former captors himself. Even though this might sound promising, what the issue with it’s the manner that the story is still told. “ What the heck are they, ” and? ” at least a dozen times over the course. In actuality, the only approach I managed to even restate the plot of Past Cure to you was searching up the description of this game on its site.

Also worth noting in relation to story and characters is that Past Cure includes precisely the worst voice acting I’ve ever heard in my entire life. The operation for Ian is so devoid of emotion which I’m not as upset with the voice actor in question for his performance and am somewhat worried that Phantom 8 deemed it worthy enough to your game. For a game that attempts to rely heavily on its narrative, the act of listening to its characters talk becomes a chore.

Days later and that hes still making jokes about a single section in which a character reminisces about the time. I guess you could say the dialogue is memorable but not to the appropriate reasons.

In reality, theyre likely somehow worse. The best way I can describe   Past Cure concerning its movement and gunplay would be to get you imagine a self-study activity game from fifteen years ago. Got it? Wonderful. Now I want you to envision the exact identical sort of ancient 2000s third-person game using much more imprecise aiming plus a character that feels as though his knees neglect’t flex when walking — a notice we alluded to in our previous vertical slice preview of this game. This picture should hopefully help give you a better image of  exactly what its like to play   Past Cure.

Past Cure Review -- It's Terrible

This in dull weapons conjunction with terrible AI, and as I mentioned earlier, “powers” that literally do nothing besides occasionally slow period down create for a snoozefest of the experience.   Past Cure also motivates one to use stealth to your advantage quite a bit, and boy, people perform just about as well as you would expect. I’ve got a more significant problem with video games as a whole that toss in unnecessary stealth mechanics and Past Cure has joined that list.

All the action sequences that occur occur within some incredibly recycled surroundings with a single parking garage segment being egregious.   Plus, the character design is straight-up–that I’m running to the ton of soldiers from characters like Ian out of descriptive representations – abhorrent that you’ll encounter. The finalized character models in   Past Cure seem like ancient concept models that’d you’d see in the first days of game development for some other titles.

A couple of technical issues plagued my gaudy expertise in Past Cure over it needed to be. While playing PS4, the game appeared for me twice, and I watched a couple of graphical errors. Worst of all of them had been a glitch that prevented me out of witnessing the game’s cutscene. They are acquainted with this bug, as of now, Phantom 8 has told me, and I hope that it’ll be adjusted upon discharge.

Past Cure Review -- It's Terrible

Perhaps my biggest issue with Past Cure over what I’ve said is that it seems so uninspired. I’m likely to feel that Phantom 8 Studio discovered anything in   Past Cure to know what I’d consider “fun”  because there’s just none to be had. In case you should play this game and tell me which you had a great time with it, then I’d invite you to test your pulse as you’re dead. In all seriousness though, I simply cant understand what Phantom 8 tried to accomplish with this project because it doesn ’ t sense exceptional or fleshed out in any manner.

The only positive thing I can say concerning  Past Cure is that I’ve accepted this strike and played the game for you so you don’t need to. At a time at which I believe games are much better than ever, so I  urge you to devote your hard-earned free time cozying up to literally any other game — even   Superman 64.   Past Cure isn’t simply the worst game I have played over the last couple of years; it’s currently on the listing of worst games that I’ve ever played in my entire life.
